As I was lying under the night sky with a couple of friends, I spotted the moon. I was saddened. It was already the 17th night of the blessed month, and so was the time nearing for the month to bid goodbye.
If we know that a guest is coming home for dinner, we would start preparing for it from the morning, probably we will begin shopping a day before. And if the guest is someone important, do I have to mention what we would do?
We’ll clean every corner of our house, prepare the best of dishes and try to look our very best.
It’s just a few hours and the guest will officially enter into our hearts and homes ( اللَهم بلغنا رمضان) . But are we prepared?
It’s not too late, never is it late for something good. Start now. Begin with your heart, because it is the king of all the organs in our body, the vessel of every thought, the engine of all our actions. The Prophet ( صلى الله عليه وسلم ) said: Beware! There is a piece of flesh in the body if it becomes good (reformed) the whole body becomes good but if it gets spoilt the whole body gets spoilt and that is the heart. ( AlBukhari)
The heart is the place of intentions which decides our actions. This is why we have to renew them every now and then by asking ourselves:why are we fasting? What do we want from it? Who are we fasting for?
Narrated `Umar bin Al-Khattab: I heard Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) saying, “The (reward of) deeds, depend upon the intentions and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended. So whoever emigrated for the sake of Allah and His Apostle, then his emigration will be considered to be for Allah and His Apostle, and whoever emigrated for the sake of worldly gain or for a woman to marry, then his emigration will be considered to be for what he emigrated for.” (AlBukhari)
Niyyah or intention, is the basis of our every action, a deed to be accepted by Allah, should be for Allah.
Just like I mentioned, Ramadan is the most honorable guest one could get in his life. Companions of the prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم would start praying and waiting for Ramadan from six months before!
My fellow readers, Ramadan along being a guest is a month full of blessings. The reward of fasting is in Allah’s سبحانه و تعالى hands as is mentioned in Hadith al qudsi: (fasting is for me…). So before this holy month starts let’s renew our intentions! The intention to do everything in the month of Ramadan and after it only for the sake of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, the intention to purify ourselves in this month and seek for Allah’s forgiveness, the intention to become better Muslims, the intention to practice the commandments of Allah سبحانه وتعالى.
May Allah سبحانه وتعالى bless us with many more Ramadans and may this Ramadan be the best that we have ever lived….ameen.
Those words are a million times better than a ‘Hi’ or ‘Good Morning’.
Those words weigh heavier than ‘Hope you have a great day.’
It not only spreads love and peace, but it is a dua’ and you are rewarded too.
