It is narrated by Ibn Umar-may Allah be pleased with him- that the companions of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم used to see him do istigfar ( asking Allah for forgiveness) a hundred times in one sitting. [Abi Dawood]
This got me thinking, he, the Prophet of Allah, the most truthful, the one with the perfect character, guided by the divine revelation, the best human being to walk on the face of this Earth, the most grateful servent of His Lord, the one with all his sins forgiven, what did he need to ask forgiveness for?
I searched and came accross some some amazing benefits of doing istigfar.
Firstly, Allah Almighty has said in Surah Nuh:
” And O my people! Ask forgiveness of your Lord and then repent to Him, He will send you from the sky abduntant rain, and add strength to your strength, so do not turn away as Mujrimoom(criminals, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah).”
In another hadith it is narrated by Ibn Abbas that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said that whoever increases in istigfar Allah will grant him relief from every worry, and a way out from every hardship and will grant him provision from sources he could not imagine.
Other benefits which the scholars have nentioned includes:
● Attaining Allah’s love.
●Protection from Shaitain, jin and all evils.
●Ease and barakah in provision ( children, money, wealth, health)
● Ease in doing good deeds.
● Decrease in love of this world.
● Increase in Iman.
And many more…so try increasing the amount of istigfar you do in a day. Sitting, standing, laying down, walking, waiting just include it in every step of your life and see the help of Allah in your life.
