Remember when you were a small child, totally dependent, who fulfilled your needs?
When you wanted that toy everyone had, who provided for you?
When you wanted to pursue your dreams, who supported you?
When you were lost and needed advice, who guided you?
But when you became independent, busy building your life you started to ignore their needs, failed to realize it’s time they need you now. It’s not payback, you can never ever re-pay for all those sleepless nights, high tuition bills, long working hours, giving up their savings, countless sacrifices. Never. It’s just the least we can do.
It hurts them every time you answer back, every time you prioritize others over them, when days pass and you don’t check on them.
They deserve your respect.
Your good treatment.
Being your number 1 priority.
Allah says: And your Lord has commanded that you shall not serve (any) but Him, and do good to your parents. If either or both of them reach old age with you, say not to them (so much as) “ugh” nor chide them, but (always) speak to them reverent speech.
And make yourself submissively gentle to them with compassion, and say: “O my Lord! have compassion on them, as they brought me up (when I was) a child.” [Surah Isra 23-24]
Don’t let another day pass without appreciating them, without checking on them, without telling them how much they mean to you.
Use this time to serve them before you loose this opportunity. An even after they are gone, pray for them and do good deeds they all reach them and raise their status in the hereafter.
They are too precious and irreplaceable to be taken for granted.
May Allah make bless them and make us the coolness of their eyes. Ameen.
