The forgotten miracle…

neuronsWith the immense advancement in Science, scientists have finally discovered the age of the cells in our body. Almost every cell gets renewed after a certain period of time, like the RBC’s (red blood cells) die every 120 days and new ones replace them, the skin cells wear out every two weeks and the White blood cells(WBC’s) after 15.1 years. The brain cells (neurons) are an exception.  Scientific research has shown that the neurons in our body are exactly the same age as us, which means that they are not replaced throughout a person’s life. (The neurons in the cerebellum which are responsible for coordination and balance are 1.5 years younger than you, this makes sense as the way you control your balance and coordination changes over the years).

The brain cells don’t replace themselves as the neurones in the vision and memory centres preserve what we see and remember them for a life time.

This is just one of the examples of the wisdom behind the working of the human body. If you look at it more closely, you will get astounded by the beauty with which each tiny cell in your body receives its food and gets rid of its waste products. Your body takes care of itself all the time by keeping its temperature constant (homeostasis). When you are too hot, the capillaries close to your skin dilate and allow more blood to flow through, this causes more heat loss through radiation and results in you cooling down. The kidneys automatically clean your blood free of urea and excess salts, the liver breaks down toxic substances, the heart pumps blood to all parts of your body, down to the tiniest cell (Do you know that there are trillions of cells in your body!). Your body also protects itself from pathogens, it keeps an army of white blood cells to get rid of the ‘invaders’. It also repairs itself after you get hurt from injuries. The five senses keep you aware of your environment all the time and on top of all this is your brain that controls almost everything that takes place in your body.

Anterior-Muscles_cIvyRose_280wNow look at yourself in the mirror, you don’t see your brain or heart or lungs, they are each protected within their places to keep themselves from harm. The most astonishing part about you is your development from a mere clot of congealed blood to a whole living being. You have been designed in a way that you makes you a ‘miracle’…doesn’t it?

Have you ever seen or thought about a creation so beautifully made, flawless as it is, it reminds you of its Creator. Despite having two eyes, two ears, and four limbs we are all so different from each other! Of all the billions of people who live on this Earth there is no one who resembles you completely. Doesn’t this amaze you? Who could have created all these different faces?

No human has ever been able to create something so perfect. This leads to the fact that someone greater than us, created us. Our existence is a proof to the existence of Allah سبحانه و تعالى.

Indeed Allah سبحانه و تعالى mentions in the Quran:

(لقد خلقنا الانسان في أحسن تقويم (سورة التين

Undoubtedly, We have created men in the fairest stature. (Surah teen,4)

We are without a doubt the best creation of Allah سبحانه و تعالى , our bodies are one of the greatest blessings from Him . So next time you look in the mirror don’t forget to thank Allah سبحانه وتعالى for His countless favours upon you.

I pray to Allah سبحانه وتعالى to keep you in the best of shape and always guide you towards the right path, amen.
