Are the names of Allah confined to just 99? Or are there more? The names that we see on wall hangings, are they all correct? What about the Hadith which says ‘whoever learns the 99 names enters paradise’?
Islam stands out from the rest of the religions in many ways, apart from it being the only Divine religion which is intact till this date and will be intact till the end of times. One of the ways it stands out is that Islam adheres based on clear proofs and understanding, not just blindly following!
It all starts and ends with what Allah and the prophet said.
So, now let’s answer that question. Firstly, Allah has more than 99 names,
And to Allah belong the best names, so invoke Him by them. And leave [the COMPANY of] those who practice deviation concerning His names. They will be recompensed for what they have been doing.
Secondly, the Hadith which says that Allah has 99 names and whoever counts them will enter paradise is an authentic Hadith mentioned in Bukhari,
Now let’s study the Hadith… it says
As the hadith states ‘
It means that whoever learns 99 from Allah’s names enters Jannah, not that Allah only has 99 names. 99 is the number one needs to learn to go to Jannah and that Allah swt has more than 99 names, of which we do not know as taken from the dua of the prophet which is narrated by Ahmed:
It means that there are names of Allah swt that He has not taught to anyone and they remain in His knowledge only.
It’s just like you say to someone ‘I have 20 Riyals for Sadaqah’. That doesn’t mean that you have only 20 Riyals in all but you have taken out 20 for Sadaqah and that you have more.
