This concerns no other revelation but that of Basmalah commonly pronounced as
In the name of Allah, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful.
Indeed it is one of the names of Allah that is closest to His greater names just like the blackness and whiteness of an eye. Any work that begins without Basmalah is imperfect and devoid of barakah(blessing).
Jabir رضي الله عنه is reported to have said that when بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم was revealed, the clouds gave way by moving to the East, the winds ceased blowing, the oceans became calm, the creatures prepared themselves to listen, the shayateen were pelted with fire from the heavens, and Allah سبحانه و تعالى swearing an oath by His honor, declared: Anyone who says this name of mine upon anything, I will surely impart barakah in that thing. (Ibn kathir)
It is the ayah that was revealed on only two prophets, Solomon and Mohammad peace be upon them. (Ibn Kathir)
Reading Basmalah before starting any work was a practice of the prophet peace be upon him and he advised his ummah to do the same. This act turns the work one does into Ibaadah(worship) and it always ends in khair(good).
Reading Basmalah is considered mashroo (مشروع) in Shari’ah.
Don’t forget to read the Basmalah next time you start something! 🙂
